Antenatal and Postnatal Wards

Rowan and Maple Ward have been combined to provide 54 beds for patients receiving postnatal and antenatal care.  The area consists of a combination of 4 bedded, 2 bedded and single en-suite rooms with a specialised en-suite room equipped for our disabled clients.  There is also a 4 cot transitional care area, which provides specialised care for babies with specific needs.  Midwives provide support to mothers and their partners to care for and bond with their babies.

Staffing

Staffing for the ward consists of a ward sister, midwives, midwifery assistants, ward housekeepers, ward clerks, caterers and domestic staff along with other members of the multidisciplinary team.  They all strive to provide a high standard of quality care to all women and are a dedicated, skilled and motivated team.

Trained infant feeding co-ordinators are available to provide advice and support to women and their families regarding breast and artificial feeding methods.  They are a resource to staff and provide training to continue in the work towards achieving baby friendly status.

The ward has protected mealtimes when only essential care is provided thereby enabling mothers to eat in a relaxed way.
