Blood Sciences

We are a team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants that perform a range of tests to diagnose and monitor diseases of the blood and bone marrow.

The Haematology laboratory is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) in accordance with internationally recognised medical laboratories standards, ISO 15189:2012 Medical Laboratories - Requirements for Quality and Competence.
All of our Biomedical Scientists are registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).
The department is also approved by the Institute of Biomedical Scientists (IBMS) as a training laboratory. We excel in the training of Biomedical Scientists and support staff to not only gain qualifications but more importantly, achieve their potential.

The laboratory receives a range of blood samples for Haematological and Coagulation testing from locations within our Hospital Trust, Local Primary Care services and from other hospital Trusts across the UK.
Staff in the Haematology labs work between Haematology, Coagulation, and Blood Transfusion and at both the Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital sites.
