About the Haematology Laboratory

We are a team of Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants providing a comprehensive range of tests to diagnose and monitor diseases of the blood and bone marrow.

The Haematology laboratory is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) in accordance with the internationally recognised standard ISO 15189:2022 – Medical Laboratories: Requirements for Quality and Competence.

All our Biomedical Scientists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and the department is approved by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) as a training laboratory.

We are committed to developing our staff, supporting Biomedical Scientists and support workers to gain qualifications and, more importantly, to achieve their full potential.

The laboratory receives a wide range of blood samples for Haematology and Coagulation testing from across our Hospital Trust, local Primary Care services, and from other NHS Trusts throughout the UK.

Staff within the department work across Haematology, Coagulation, and Blood Transfusion, and operate across both Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital sites.
