Clinical pathways

The service accepts electronic referrals for all services. Approximately 60% of our departments' work is paediatric based. All patients referred to the service undergo triage to ensure resources are used effectively following appropriate national and local guidelines.

How to refer a patient for orthoptic assessment?

You can make referrals to the Orthoptic Department in several ways:

  • Write to us:
    Orthoptic Department
    Hull Royal Infirmary
    Anlaby Road
    Hull
    HU3 2JZ
  • Call us on 01482 816605
  • Email us at orthoptics@hey.nhs.uk

What is the waiting time for orthoptic assessment?

Routine new patients are offered a first appointment in 6-8 weeks, if you require a patient to be sooner please indicate this on the referral and we will do all we can to oblige.

Will I be notified of the outcome once a patient has been assessed?

Yes the orthoptist who assesses the patient will write to you or send the report for your perusal. Alternatively all orthoptic assessments are  available electronically on the Trust EPR Lorenzo and can be found within the clinical notes section.

Do I need to state the tests required?

This is only necessary if there is a specific test you would like us to carry out in order to aid your management of a patient. Please see below for more information.
