Orthoptic Undergraduate

The Orthoptic department is a teaching department committed to clinical education of the clinicians of the future.

The service is particularly involved in the provision of clinical placements for the undergraduate orthoptic programmes around the country. The service provides regular clinical placements for all year groups from:

The University of Liverpool
The University of Sheffield

Undergraduate orthoptic students from Sheffield and Liverpool come to the Orthoptic Department for clinical training on four-week placements, with the opportunity to see patients with a variety of different conditions.

Medical Students

The Orthoptic department supports the provision of medical student placements interested in the paediatric ophthalmology.

Pre-reg Optometrists

The Orthoptic service supports the optometry service programme for pre-reg optometrists that visit the department.

Other professionals

Periodically the Orthoptic Department may have other visiting professionals from both the hospital or community setting observing as part of helping them better understand the work of the Orthoptic Department.
