At the day surgery unit
Our unit has been designed with the needs of children in mind, and staff will make every effort to provide a reassuring, comfortable, and high quality experience.
The Daisy Building is located just inside Entrance 2 of the Castle Hill Hospital site, on the right hand side. There is limited car parking nearby, plus a number of drop off spaces right next to the day surgery entrance (maximum 20 minute stay). Our site uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and is a ‘pay on exit’ system, accepting both cards and cash (no change given). You can also pay in advance, on site, or up to 24hrs later using APCOAconnect.
You may need to buzz the intercom to enter. Please report to reception when you arrive.
What happens when
Your child’s pre-assessment will be carried out by telephone before the operation date. Please use this opportunity to ask any questions if you have them at this stage.
On the day, please arrive on time, but do be aware that the time on your child’s appointment letter is not the time of surgery, it is the time you should arrive for your child to be admitted and see the doctors.
You will be asked to complete a consent form for your child alongside the surgeon on the day of the operation.
All information about wound care, follow-up appointments, contact numbers, and care at home will be given to you when your child is discharged.
Good to know…
It is very important that you read our general information leaflet and any other specific information given to you about your child’s procedure well in advance. These documents contain important instructions ahead of the surgery date, such as what to bring with you and whether/when your child should stop eating and drinking before their surgery.
Due to space limitations within the unit, we kindly ask that only one parent/guardian accompanies each child who is due to be admitted for surgery.
