The “Meet and Greet” Reception, Patient Services and Transport team within the Queen’s Centre provide a professional, welcoming and efficient service for patients, visitors, staff and health professionals.
As the first point of contact for visitors to the Queen’s Centre this team have an excellent understanding of cancer services within the clinical support health group and the various wards and departments and their location within the building.
The team maintain up-to-date knowledge of government legislation and are able to provide accurate information, assistance and advice on patient travel expense claims, the purchase and issue of parking permits and also general enquires by phone and in person, offering directions, ward visiting information, response to wheelchair requests and local service information such as bus and train timetables and local taxi services.
In addition, as first point of contact, the team will offer advice and assistance in a respectful, empathetic and professional manner to patients and relatives who may be experiencing distress and worry whilst ensuring that confidentiality is maintained in their busy area and that Trust policies, procedures and health and safety legislation are followed at all times.
Some things you can expect...Evening cover on reception until 7pm, receipt and acknowledgement of donations, interpreter services, security, car parking, special assistance, public telephones and various information leaflets on combined services.
Patients attending appointments on hospital transport are greeted and booked in on arrival and, following their appointment, invited to wait for transport home in a comfortable area adjacent to the transport desk where they are kept up-to-date with return journey schedules.
The team share a philosophy of the needs of the patient being central to everything they do, respecting privacy and dignity, and acknowledging limitations, beliefs and perspectives.
The General Office at Hull Royal Infirmary and Patient Services at Castle Hill Hospital main site transferred to the management of specialist services in the Queen’s Centre in April 2013, leading to the teams in these areas providing cover across the three sites. This integration has resulted in an improved, clearly defined and consistent service for patients when accessing any one of the above sites.
