- You have been spoken to by the endoscopist regarding your diagnosis.
- Biopsies have been taken/polyps have been removed. Results take 6 to 8 weeks to report on and will be sent to your Consultant.
- You have been given an information leaflet.

Useful information following flexible sigmoidoscopy
When can I eat and drink?
You may return to your normal activities and eat and drink as normal.
Are there any after effects of the procedure?
You may have some mild to moderate windy pains in your abdomen due to wind in your bowel. If you had a biopsy taken you may experience a little bleeding.
Although unpleasant, these are normal and nothing to worry about, and should stop within 24 hours as you move around.
What if I feel unwell after the test?
If you experience any severe abdominal pain, vomiting, or you pass more than an egg cup full of red blood, please seek help immediately.
The Endoscopy Unit at Castle Hill Hospital is open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm on telephone number (01482) 622065.
Outside of these hours, please ring Ward 100 at Hull Royal Infirmary on telephone number (01482) 675100, or ring your own GP or Emergency Department.

The full results of your examination will be discussed at your next outpatient appointment.
