Critical Care in Hull and East Yorkshire consists of four separate Intensive Care Units: two based at Hull Royal Infirmary and two at Castle Hill Hospital.
Hull Royal Infirmary
HICU1 (10 beds) and HICU2 (14 beds) on the 3rd floor of the Tower Block are staffed as mixed general units with a combination of Level 2 and Level 3 patients, including Neurosurgery and some Paediatrics. Numbers vary depending on staffing levels and patient dependency. A consultant intensivist is responsible for each unit during working hours and an on-call consultant covers both units out of hours.
Castle Hill Hospital
CICU1 (12 beds) is for predominantly post-operative Cardiothoracic patients and is run jointly by cardiac anaesthetists and surgeons. CICU2 (10 beds) is a general Intensive Care Unit covered by the same group of consultant intensivists who work in critical care at Hull Royal Infirmary. There is a consultant present during working hours and an on-call consultant available out of hours. The majority of patients admitted to CICU2 have had elective general surgery procedures.
