The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Hepatology Research Departments are based at Hull Royal Infirmary but also work at Castle Hill Hospital, East Riding Community Hospital and various GP practices across the region.  We have a dedicated research team of experienced Clinicians, Registrars, Clinical Research Nurses and Clinical Specialist Nurses, Administrators and Technicians.  The main themes  of our clinical research are IBD, focusing on Crohn’s, Ulcerative Colitis,  autoimmune diseases and Liver diseases such as alcohol and non-alcohol liver diseases as well as pancreatic and biliary disease.

Our current research interests include:

  • New therapies and technologies for the treatment Crohn’s, Colitis and Liver disease
  • Autoimmune diseases (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, Primary Biliary Cholangitis, Hepatitis)
  • Treatment discussion aid tools for IBD
  • Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease / Non Alcoholic Steatohepatitis
  • Acute Severe Ulcerative Colitis
  • Drug Induced Liver Injury
  • Perianal fistulising Disease
  • Treatment of oesophageal varices
