We are based across both Hull Royal and Castle Hill Hospitals. As a team of research nurses and non-clinical staff, we offer support to departments that are currently active in research and provide support and resources for those departments new to research. These include orthopaedics, stroke, respiratory, plastic trauma, neurology. We also offer support outside the Hospital to GP surgeries that are also active in research.
Our current research interests include
- Orthopaedic trauma: looking at different types of treatment on broken lower limbs and how they reflect on the outcome of patients’ recovery. Supported by a range of health professionals such as specialist nurses and physiotherapists.
- Investigating the impact pressure sores have on affected inpatients and staff treating pressure sores throughout the hospital. Comparing two different types of mattresses to investigate the best way in helping to stop pressure sores developing.
- Investigating whether it is beneficial to a patient to continue or start taking an antiplatelet drug to prevent serious vascular events (stroke) in the future.
- Pleural infection and following up patients’ health and the effects the infection has on a patient’s respiratory system.
