Breast Cancer Support

The Macmillan Breast Care Team

The Macmillan Breast Care team is made up of nurses and administration support. They have taken specialist training to care for patients with breast disease. Within local and national guidelines they give ongoing practical and psychological support to patients with breast cancer. The Breast Care Nurse support begins at your recall breast screening appointment or assessment clinic. They support patients with primary and secondary breast disease. They are also available to give advice and support for patients with non-threatening breast disease.

Upon diagnosis of breast cancer, you will be given a named key worker. But the nurses work closely as a team, and are all able to help you. The amount of help is changed throughout your pathway to your individual need. Your needs and wishes are most important. The nurses aim to help you, to give you the information you need to make choices. And they help you when working with the wider team. Working with the wider teams is a very important part of your care pathway. They work with many types of groups and health workers for your care.

You should contact your nurse using the telephone line. Leave a message on the answer machine. The team will try to return your call within 48 hours. When you come to your appointment, there is usually a nurse around if you wish to see one. You can also book to speak to someone in person if you need to.
